My Digital Closet & Those Little Finds

So, I was scrolling through my phone the other day while waiting for my coffee to brew – you know, that weird limbo time where you’re too groggy to do anything productive but too awake to just stand there. My feed was full of the usual: memes, vacation pics from people who apparently don’t have jobs, and a ton of fashion inspo. I’ve been in this weird mood lately where I just want my clothes to feel… effortless. Not like I tried too hard, but like I just threw on the coolest thing in my closet without a second thought.

Anyway, this got me thinking about how I actually find stuff. Remember when we used to just wander into stores and hope for the best? Now it’s all about digging through the internet, which is equal parts amazing and overwhelming. I’ve been using this Basetao spreadsheet thing lately – not like a formal tool or anything, just my own little digital mood board. It started because I kept seeing jackets I liked on different sites and then immediately forgetting where they were. Classic me.

So I made this spreadsheet for my finds, and it’s low-key become my favorite thing. It’s not a shopping list; it’s more like a visual diary of stuff that catches my eye. The other day, I was watching some random cooking show (trying to be fancy, failed miserably), and during a boring part, I opened it up. I had saved this perfect olive green chore coat from weeks ago. Totally forgot about it. Ended up ordering it, and now it’s basically my second skin. It’s that kind of piece that goes with everything – jeans, weird wide-leg pants I’m trying to make happen, even over a dress. No regrets.

What I like about keeping a Basetao-style list is that it takes the pressure off. I’m not hunting for ‘the perfect item’; I’m just collecting things that spark joy, as Marie Kondo would say. Sometimes it’s a specific pair of boots; other times it’s just a color palette I’m into. Like right now, I’m weirdly obsessed with this mustard yellow. Saw it on a beanie in my spreadsheet finds, and now I want it in a sweater, socks, maybe even my walls. Don’t tell my landlord.

It’s funny how these little digital habits sneak into your life. I was on the train yesterday, just people-watching and thinking about how everyone has their own uniform. The guy across from me had the crispest white sneakers I’ve ever seen. Immediately made a mental note to look for something similar later. Not to copy, just… inspired. That’s the vibe. My Basetao spreadsheet is full of those moments – a sleeve detail from a street style pic, the way a certain fabric drapes in a movie. It’s less about buying and more about noticing.

Oh, and the best part? When you revisit it after a while, and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I was really into bucket hats last month.’ Tastes change, moods shift, but having it all in one place feels oddly satisfying. Like tidying up your brain’s closet.

So yeah, that’s been my little fashion side quest lately. No big hauls or crazy trends, just slowly curating a wardrobe that feels like me. Or at least, the me I am this season. Right now, I’m sitting in my living room with that olive jacket draped over the chair, sunlight hitting the fabric just right, and I’m thinking about maybe adding a corduroy skirt to my spreadsheet. Or maybe I’ll just finish my coffee first and see what the day brings.
